8 Frames with Michaela Verity

What kind of film camera(s) do you use?

I use a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD (with polaroid back) and various 35mm cameras.

Why do you shoot film?

I enjoy the process. The sounds that the Mamiya makes as I shoot, processing and waiting for the images to appear. I value each image that I’ve taken on film above any pixel that pops out of my digital camera.

Who or What do you love taking photos of?

I tend to gravitate towards people I find interesting. Making portraits is my one true love.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I’m in the planning phase of a few personal and on-going projects. The actual implementation of these projects will take place in 2013. Other than that I’m constantly working on pictures.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Everything. Mostly books.

What is the strangest job you have ever had (photography or not)?

I was once hired to photograph a sportsman having hair plugs put in. It was very well paid but the day was bizarre. Each client has his/her own box propped up in a studio in which various ‘wigs’ are kept. I had to take before and after shots.

What are you doing when you are not taking photos?

Drawing, listening to music, thinking about taking photos. Thinking about how to earn a living off of all of these things.

What is your favourite movie of all time?

What kind of question is that!?! Grosse Pointe Blank. Why not.
